| 10 Reasons to Keep Snodrass Free of Lift-Served Skiing |
| |
1.
Invalid purpose and need for the project (i.e., terrain expansions haven't
increased skier visits). Given the current decline of the ski industry, it
is highly unlikely that we would see increased skier visits or improved economy.
2. It's NOT
LIGHT given the amount of earth moving and blasting, stream and wetlands impacts,
snowmaking and drainage systems, 96,000 trees cut.
3. Loss of wetlands, forests, wildlife
habitat, and migration corridors.
4. Loss of low-impact, free, public, year-round
recreation on National Forest.
5. It's NOT INTERMEDIATE! Limited naturally occurring
intermediate ski terrain on Snodgrass means massive earthwork would be needed,
and still only a small amount of intermediate skiing would result. See our terrain
study
6. Already approved
improvements to intermediate terrain and guest experience on CB Mountain remain
undone.
7. Increased avalanche danger on Gothic Road, a public health and safety
issue.
8. Water: Is the evaporative loss of manmade snow the best use of this precious
resource?
9. Climate change and energy use: Local governments have enacted Energy
Action Plans, to reduce energy consumption 20% by 2020. USFS has a new Climate
Change requirement for all Forest activities.
10. Protect Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory. |
